About Plug Adapters

For many of you travelers, this is unnecessary—however, more than one of us has been caught out without the proper plug, adapter, or transformer.

In answer to a request for information about the kind of electric adapters needed, we checked with Simon Herring at LaRochelle.
FIRST–he reminded us that the voltage is 220 [not our 110]—thus if your appliance or charger is not suited for 220 or unless you have a transformer that changes it to 110, you will immediately burn up anything you plug in.
SECOND–Almost all the rooms have the British standard plugs—They are rather large with three rectangular prongs.

Thus–if your charger or hair dryer says it will work on 220, all you will need is a three prong adapter (commonly used in the UK, and which you can get at any travel store, and sometimes Target and Meijers has them) into which you insert your standard American plug.

If the electrical item you wish to use–is NOT marked for 220—do not use it without a transformer or adapter that converts the power to 110.
